What is Michi-no-Eki? (local farmers market in Japan)

If you go to sightseen in Japan, “Michi-no-Eki” shop is one of most famous local food store. Everybody run to the shop before or after the trip.

“Michi-no-Eki” in Japanese is Station of Road and real mean is Local food shop. It is a little different from the farmers market.

The farmers market in Japan is like weekend event but Michi-no-Eki opens during normal shop-hour everyday.

so what is good point?

This shop located every local district so they gather a lot of seasonal vegetables from the local farmers with best price, of course.

Also the local town promote many interesting local foods and souvenir that you cannot buy in your area.

Here is one that I show you this time. “Michi-no-Eki”  at Haga town in Tochigi prefecture.

For example, have you seen this aloe in a regular store? There are various types of mushrooms.

Tochigi is famous for strawberries, so there are strawberry-flavored sweets. You can also buy strawberries in a bargain package. It’s really big and cheap so that It sold out quickly.

Also, Utsunomiya in Tochigi is famous for gyoza. There were many types of frozen dumpling corners.

so What is the best buy this time? (Strawberries were sold out and could not be bought) It’s natto with pure salty taste.

Normally, natto is eaten with soy sauce but this natto is that you can taste and enjoy the original taste of soybeans. It is so delicious.I found very good rice crackers. I meant “Real good one”
